AFC Sudbury v Cheshunt
The hosts AFC Sudbury were in fine form ahead of the game as they won their last two League games and it was Sudbury who started the game brightly as they went of the offensive from kick off.
Both sides were moving the ball round nicely but it was Sudbury who has the better chances during the first half and looked the more likely to break the deadlock. After 30 minutes a penalty was given to the hosst for a foul on Ryan McNicholas after the ball was won back high up the pitch by Callum Watson. Stefano Mallardo stepped up to take the penalty and calmly tucked the ball past the diving keeper in the bottom right corner. The visitors almost equalised as a free kick was floated in the box and struck the top of the bar and was then cleared by Sudbury. The half time whistle came and the hosts are narrowly leading by a slender 1-0.
The visitors looked to mount the pressure on Sudbury straight from the start of the second half but didn’t threaten Callum Robinson’s goal. The first sub of Sudbury was made early in the second as new signing Ronaldo Jones came of due to injury for Tom Dettmar. Cheshunt was gaining more and more control of the game but Sudbury defended well and didn’t let the visitors attacking threat get the better of them. The second sub came when goal scorer Stefano came off for Toby Mitchell. Sudbury almost scored a second through Callum Watson’s powerful header which was heading to the top right corner was saved by the visitors keeper to keep them in the game. Eighty minutes played and the Cheshunt keeper was sent off for his second yellow card through descent. This didn’t stop the visitors from attacking and the last 10 minutes Cheshunt looked to grab a late equaliser and started flooding men forward to put pressure on the Sudbury back four. In the 85th minute Sudbury made their last change as Kane Munday replaced Ben Judge. With minutes to go and Cheshunt was looking to score, Sudbury countered the visitors through Kane and he smartly played Callum in on goal which was saved by their sub goalkeeper to keep them in the game. The final whistle came and the hosts made it three wins in a row with a good 1-0 victory against a good Cheshunt side.
