Out Of Trophy
Three Goal Margin
AFC's 2017/18 Buildbase FA Trophy trail is over as they went to Bostik Premier side Metropolitan Police and were defeated 3-0.
The scoreline was a little harsh but the result a fair one. The sides went in level at the break with AFC goalkeeper Paul Walker (pictured) making a number of good saves.
However two goals in three minutes, one a penalty, eight minutes after the break saw the more experienced side take control of the tie. The hosts added a third a minute from time to go through to the Second Qualifying Round.
Fuller report to follow.....
With thanks to Metropolitan Police we reproduce their report of the tie.
The Metropolitan Police advanced to the next round of the FA Trophy following a convincing score and performance against a neat and tidy AFC Sudbury side that never gave up and continued to try and pass the ball even if they fell a little short physically.
In the first half, Jay Gasson had a header tipped on to the bar and Jonny Wright had a 25-yard effort clip the outside of the post. Following a goalless first half, the home side continued to press for the opening goal of the afternoon and they didn’t have to wait long. A cross from Lloyd Macklin was headed home by Bayley Mummery as he arrived late in the box. The Blues doubled their lead as Sam Gallagher was brought down in the box and Macklin converted from the spot. The Sudbury keeper made a string of fine saves as the half wore on and will feel disappointed to have conceded a third as again he was given no chance as Wright slotted in from close range following good work from Rylan Myers.
A 3-0 final score that ensured safe passage to the next round as the The Met look forward to the draw.
