A Comeback Win

Good Performances

With the club having two games on the same evening, this was a mixed side with some very experienced played and some very raw youngsters. That said all AFC players on show gelled together and combined well to have a come from behind victory.

The Thurlow Nunn visitors were two goals up after only twelve minutes. The first came from a free kick and headed home by Ben Bradley the second came from another well worked free kick. Ex- AFC player Marcus Hunt slid the ball down the flank and it was crossed and came back out to Luke Haynes who fired home passed Callum Robinson.

Luke Callander had a chance to pull a goal back when he chipped the visitor's keeper Chapman only to see the ball go wide of the post. Ryan Horne playing his second game since returning was working hard in midfield, while youngsters Ollie Dunlop and Adam Dunnage looked comfortable.

Sam Bantick (pictured) was busy on both sides of the pitch and was on hand to blast a free kick that was well saved by Chapman. AFC got back in the game ten minutes from the break courtesy of an own goal following a corner fired into the Haverhill penalty area the ball going in off Holmes. A couple of minutes later and the scores were level. Callander fired in a hard free-kick that hit the post and there was Bantick to put away the rebound.

Joe Wright took over from Dunlop at the start of the half and settled well in midfield. Skipper Sam Clarke starting his first game of the season burst down the right and fed Bantick whose cross found Callander's head the ball struck the bar, rebounded and he somehow headed the ball over the goal.

AFC went in front from a central free-kick thirty yards out blasted home by Luke Callander giving Phelps in the Haverhill goal no chance.

Bantick again was the provider for Callander but the latter failed with his effort. Horne and Dunnage went off and Ben Hunter and Callum Watson replaced them.It was the former who started AFC's fourth goal, he passed to Bantick whose shot was saved but Callander was there to take advantage and score.

Danny Cunningham came on with Bantick taking a well deserved rest. The game continued with AFC in the ascent and Tyler French having a good game at the heart of the defence. Callum Robinson in the AFC goal had had little to do but he did well to save from Bradley and was relieved when Holmes headed over as the game ended.
