AFC went into the game with a stand in goalkeeper after regular number one Paul Walker was injured in the warm up. With no other goalkeeper named on the bench young Academy central defender Milo Grimes donned the green jersey and gloves.
The visitors Ware went in front on twenty-four minutes when following a free kick into the penalty area the ball was not cleared and Louis Bowen fired home.
The equaliser came four minutes before the break when Callum Harrison ran through the visitors defence and shot into the corner of the net.
The second half saw a rather lack lustre performance from AFC and a goal was conceded after Grimes made a good save but the ball came out to Damien Green and he shot home.
In the final minute of normal time unfortunately Grimes made a howler letting a long-range shot from Josh Oyibo slip through his hands and into the goal to make it 3-1 to the visitors. That said the youngster was AFC’s Man of the Match having the courage to take on the job and was not phased by it.
AFC Reserves in the Essex Senior Reserve League went to Grays Athletic and won 1-0.
