The best way to keep up to date with AFC Sudbury

Late Equaliser Gets A Point

Reserves Win One Lose One

AFC got a share of the spoils with a last minute equaliser in their away game at Parkside against Aveley. The hosts having taken an early lead Mekhi McKenzie got the AFC goal very late on after playing most of the second half with ten men.

There was one change to the Sudbury line-up with Kane Munday replacing Tom Maycock, Jake Jessup started his second game in goal. Aveley had two ex-AFC players in their side, George Doyle and Russell Malton.

The home side took the lead in the seventeenth minute when the AFC defence failed to deal with a corner and Alex Teniola headed home. Ben Hunter had the best chance of the half for Sudbury eight minutes from the break when his shot was tipped away for a corner by Rhys Madden in the Aveley goal. The half ended with Aveley having had the majority of the play.

There was self inflicted disaster for AFC only three minutes into the second period when striker Reece Dobson (pictured) was red carded for dissent.

On fifty-four minutes Will Crisell replaced Munday and a minute later it seemed the Essex side would increase their lead when awarded a penalty. Billy Holland upended Lewis Gard, Teniola took the spot kick but the ball struck the underside of the crossbar and bounced away.

There was seventeen minutes left on the clock when Sam Mills gave way to McKenzie. With ten minutes to go Ryan Horne broke through but was denied by Madden as AFC strove to get something from the game.

With a minute of normal time left the equaliser came with McKenzie scoring from close range. There was five added minutes but Sudbury stood firm to gain a point in front of a crowd of 271.

Despite the point AFC slip down one place in the Bostik North table.

At King’s Marsh it was a mixed afternoon the Essex Senior Reserve League side comprehensively defeated the reserves from Sawbridgeworth Town 5-0, while the Thurlow Nunn side lost 2-1 to Swaffham Town.
