AFC Manager Mark Morsley has obtained the signature of a very experienced striker from Bostik Premier League side Brightlingsea Regent in the shape of twenty-nine year old Phil Kelly (picture with thanks to Regent). He has signed a two-year contract with AFC.
Kelly who live locally at Horkesley, has spent the previous eight seasons with Regent rising up the leagues from the Essex and Suffolk Border League to Bostik Premier with the club.
Phil has made 271 appearances for them scoring 103 goals.
He numbers amongst his previous clubs both Cornard United and Hadleigh United.
On his recent capture Morsley said, ‘Phil is a player I have liked for some time and I did try and take him to Needham Market two seasons ago. Once we initially met last week he came across as the right player to join our journey as he now needs another challenge after being key to the phenomenal success that Regent have enjoyed. He has won leagues and cups so having that experience of ‘getting over the line’ was a really important fact for me. He was clearly loyal to his previous club and I hope that he will be as successful with Sudbury. All being well he will come into the squad for the away game against Grays Athletic on Saturday’.
We welcome him to the club and wish him well at King's Marsh.
