Cambridge City have agreed to a groundshare deal with Newmarket Town that will see the Lilywhites play at Cricket Field Road from the start of next season.
The announcement marks the end of a lengthy search for a new home for City, though the club remain determined to return to Cambridge at the earliest opportunity.
Having searched all over the city for a solution closer to home, City had no choice but to move further afield with Newmarket considered the best available option.
City chairman Kevin Satchell urged fans to support the move.
He said: "The board would like to thank (Newmarket chairman) Kevin Grainger and his committee for their co-operation and support in setting up this groundshare.
"Our Supporters' Trust are fully supportive and I appeal to all our fans to embrace the concept of groundsharing at Newmarket.
"The next three years will be a difficult chapter in the history of the club, but it remains confident that with the support of its loyal and dedicated followers it can pull through and lead the club back to a new and permanent home in the near future."
The challenge for City now is to complete the work needed to make Newmarket's ground suitable for the Zamaretto League, Premier Division and the Blue Square South, should City get promoted at the end of the season.
Representatives from the league and the FA inspected the ground on Friday and identified the work that needs to be done by the March 31 deadline.
The main part of the improvements will be the addition of a 125-seater grandstand, two covered standing areas for 250 fans, two new turnstiles, a new exit gate and additional perimeter fencing.
Grainger said: "The deal can only bring good news to the club, its supporters and players. City will upgrade the ground to a Level C standard and it has been a pleasure dealing with their chairman and board of directors.
"This deal changes nothing for the playing side, but does bring greater benefits for all."
