AFC prepares for the future
Succession planning is an important part of any football club, AFC Sudbury have recognised for some time that none of its board of directors were getting any younger, with some of them in their eighties and getting to a time of life when they would like to take a well earned rest and sit back and enjoy the football rather than deal the day to day rigours of running the club.
With this in mind Chairman Phil Turner invited ex Chelmsford Chairman –
Trevor Smith to conduct an in-depth survey of the Club and asked him to make
recommendations as to how the club should operate to maximise its huge potential for the
future. Trevor produced a strategy and a new management structure that was discussed
and unanimously approved by the Board.
This change has resulted in the Board being reduced to four Executive Directors with Philip
Turner remaining as Chairman, Trevor Smith being appointed Vice Chairman and
Commercial Director, Richard Instance as Finance Director and Danny Crosbie as
Brian Tatum will continue to act as the Company Secretary.
The Board is now looking to appoint six new volunteers in Non-Executive Director roles and
will be inviting them to step up to take responsibility for various aspects of the Club’s
activities as it makes plans for the future.
All present Shareholders and Club volunteers and supporters were invited to and attended meeting on the 2nd November when the new structure was presented to them.
The club would also like to put on record its thanks and gratitude to it retiring Directors,
some of whom have put in 60 years of service to non-league football. Brian Tatum, Mick
Mills, David Webb, Dick Burge, Keith Morris, John Smith & Danny Laws will all be stepping
down from the board.
However to ensure the club does not lose their valuable expertise and experience they have all agreed to offer help, advise and support to the new board when needed.
The club looks forward to its next exciting phase of development as the board look to build
