The Action
The Ladies opened up their league season with a visit to Brandon who pipped AFC to the Suffolk League title by point last season.
The Ladies gave a debut to 16year old Kayleigh Steed and had Lottie Churchman making her debut in goal.
AFC got off to a bad start when they went behind after five minutes when they allowed a soft goal from a corner.
As the half went on the Sudbury midfield took control, and the visitors were camped in the Brandon half. Sudbury were playing some excellent football and after some slick passing, Steed just narrowly fired over from 12 yards.
Sudbury equalised after minutes when Jodie Sharp converted a penalty after Chloe Mills had been fouled in the box.
AFC continued to press but nearly conceded however Churchman made a vital block save just before half time.
The second half was much the same with AFC dominating but unable to convert it into goals. However with ten minutes left Sudbury went ahead when Chloe Mills latched onto a through ball beat two defenders and fired into the net.
AFC had made all the permitted substitutions when they went down to ten players as Natalie Golding had to go off with a nasty calf injury.
With minutes left Brandon equalised in unfortunate circumstances. Under pressure from the Brandon number 9, goalkeeper Churchman tried to clear the ball, it rebounded off defender Lana King and bounced into the net.
Final result 2-2, but the Ladies can be very pleased with their performance.
Next Sunday’s game home to Riverside has been cancelled as Riverside have withdrawn from the League so the Ladies next match will be away to Ipswich Wanderers on Sunday 4th September.
