The Action

This friendly game saw a number of ex-AFC Sudbury players turning out for the opposition and it was the ‘Old Boys’ (including Tim Attwood, Liam Britton, Jamie Howe, Lee Owen and Paul Pengelly) who came out of top as they deservedly won this local clash; as they were stronger, quicker and more of  ‘a team’ than AFC.

In the early minutes of the game AFC Sudbury were not organised and lacking shape when a loose ball was picked up by Athletic and stabbed home giving the keeper little chance.

AFC began to put together some good moves with Brown and Ifield prominent but with no end effect while Athletic were always more dangerous and likely to score when good chances presented themselves. They had four good chances in the first quarter of an hour, while AFC  didn’t really didn’t have any, with the Athletic  defence coping fairly easily with any threat. The home side would have been further ahead if it hadn’t been for good defending by Steve Adams, with the solid Chisholm as his central defensive partner.

Half Time: Sudbury Athletic  1  – 0 AFC Sudbury  Res

With still no success into the second half AFC brought on James Skipper, Ryan Kent, Johnny Moore and Daniel Smith and late in the game Ben Bolton.

AFC seemed to get their act together a little more in the second half with Smith distributing the ball well and but with ten minutes still to go Athletic  added a second as AFC failed to clear a ball.

With five minutes left AFC pulled a goal back when Jacob Brown won the ball and put a lovely pass to the fast raiding Kent who controlled it before slamming it into the home net. AFC should have possibly been on even terms when a header was adjuded offside.

A better performance in the second half as AFC Sudbury put together some good moves but were always second best to a good strong Athletic.
