AFC Sudbury http://www.afcsudbury.com Wed, 22 Feb 2012 10:49:16 +0000 en hourly 1 http://wordpress.org/?v=3.0.4 Ware Swop Loanees http://www.afcsudbury.com/2012/02/ware-swop-loanees/ http://www.afcsudbury.com/2012/02/ware-swop-loanees/#comments Wed, 22 Feb 2012 10:49:16 +0000 tony http://www.afcsudbury.com/?p=7059 Ware have announced the return of former fans’ favourite Murat Karagul to replace fellow Wingate & Finchley loanee Lewis Jones.

Jones’ 28-day loan from Wingate expires this week, and Tuesday night’s match at home to Great Wakering Rovers was his last before returning to the Ryman League Premier Division club.

Jones has been in sparkling form since joining Ware on January 28 – a fact illustrated by his winning goal against Romford and subsequent hat-trick at Soham Town Rangers.

Now, Wingate bosses have agreed to allow striker Karagul to come to Ware on a month’s loan as a like-for-like replacement.

Karagul’s loan started on Tuesday, making him eligible for the Great Wakering Rovers game alongside the outgoing Jones.

His arrival comes a year and 11 days after he departed Wodson Park to sign for Wingate, who were then a Ryman League Division One North side.

His previous spell at Ware last season saw him become a firm favourite with the fans, and he scored a brace on his debut against Cheshunt in early October 2010.

Karagul spent time on loan at Harlow Town earlier this season, and is just returning to action following a four-match ban.

“The club would like to welcome Murat back to Wodson Park, and would like to thank Dave Norman and Tony Faulkner at Wingate & Finchley for their help in the loans of both Lewis and Murat,” read a Ware statement.

Ryman Tuesday Round-Up http://www.afcsudbury.com/2012/02/ryman-tuesday-round-up-3/ http://www.afcsudbury.com/2012/02/ryman-tuesday-round-up-3/#comments Wed, 22 Feb 2012 09:34:29 +0000 tony http://www.afcsudbury.com/?p=7058 There was no change at the top of after Tuesday evening’s fixtures, the leading pair Leiston and Enfield Town, both won.

Leiston remain two points ahead thanks to a third-minute goal by Gareth Heath (ex-AFC Sudbury) which earned them a 1-0 win at Thamesmead.

Enfield maintained their 100 per cent league record at their new stadium with a 3-0 victory over Chatham and they are now 12 points clear of third-placed Needham Market.

Kes Metitiri turned a Leon Osei cross into his own net on the half-hour for the only goal of the first half. A fizzer from Rudi Hall made it 2-0 on 67 minutes and, after Osei had hit a post with a late penalty, Dean Pennant completed the scoring in the final minute.

Harlow stay in fourth place, missing the chance to climb above Needham by forfeiting a lead and going down 2-1 at Redbridge, who moved up one place to ninth and kept themselves very much in the play-off hunt.

Danny Brown’s 19th-minute penalty put Hawks in front but Motormen hit back through Lewis Dark in the 33rd minute and Vinnie Durrant six minutes later.

The big game at the bottom brought joy for Great Wakering, whose 2-0 victory at Ware ended a run of 17 league games without a win. Jack Carlile put them ahead with an 18th-minute penalty and Billy Johnson added another two minutes after the interval.

Wakering are now three points ahead of bottom club Ilford and trail Ware only on goal difference. If they survive it will be largely because they have taken ten of the possible 12 points from their games against their fellow-strugglers.

Soham must be grateful for the six points that separate them from the relegation zone after their 5-2 defeat at Waltham Abbey. The league’s only Cambridgeshire side have taken only one point from six games this year and have conceded 13 goals in their last three matches.

It was much closer than the final score suggests, however. Daran Bern, Tom Laxton and Ayrton Coley fired the Abbotts into a 3-0 lead by the 41st minute but goals either side of the break by Andy Furnell and Dan Cotton pulled it back to 3-2 two minutes into the second half.

It was not until Bern netted his second in the 89th minute that Abbotts made sure of victory, and there was time for Liam Farrell to complete the nap hand.

AFC Sudbury 2012 Live&Kicking Music Festival Acts Announced http://www.afcsudbury.com/2012/02/afc-sudbury-alivekicking-music-festival-acts-announced/ http://www.afcsudbury.com/2012/02/afc-sudbury-alivekicking-music-festival-acts-announced/#comments Tue, 21 Feb 2012 09:36:06 +0000 tony http://www.afcsudbury.com/?p=7054 The line up for the 2012 AFC Sudbury Live&Kicking Music Festival on Monday 4th June has been announced and what a great line up it is.

Local musicians and tribute acts join the famous faces

at two-day  music extravaganza

A number of local bands and tribute acts will take centre stage at a Suffolk music festival which will form part of a two-day event to mark the Queen’s Jubilee.

Coldplay, Lady Gaga, Bon Jovi, Katy Perry and The Commitments tributes will headline Sudbury’s third Live and Kicking musical festival being held in June. Supporting the big name acts will be a number of local bands including one from Sudbury Upper School. The bumper family event, to be introduced by BBC Radio Suffolk’s Simon Warr, will also feature a number of other attractions including bouncy castles, giant inflatable slides, face painting, gladiator duels , and children’s entertainer Paul Pleasance.

Held at the MEL Group Stadium, the impressive multi-million pound home of Ryman Football League team AFC Sudbury, Live and Kicking is a 10-hour music extravaganza, which has gone from strength to strength over the past three years. Last year, the festival was headlined by seventies glam-rock legends Sweet.

This year the popular festival has teamed up with another growing Sudbury festival LeeStock – launched in memory of music mad Lee Dunford who died aged just 21 after a four year battle against cancer – to form a two-day music event.

Richard Instance, one of the Live and Kicking organisers, said: “We are delighted to have attracted some of the UK’s leading tribute acts, and with the variation we have I am sure there is something there for everyone making for a perfect family festival, which is always our main aim. However, we are equally pleased to have so many local bands playing as we are a very community minded club. We are lucky to have a thriving music scene in Sudbury and we are delighted to give local musicians a platform from which to showcase their talents.

“Obviously, an important development this year is our link-up with LeeStock, which has already announced a very exciting line-up.  We hope by working together the weekend event will become one of the most important dates on region’s music calendar.”

LeeStock will take place the day before Live and Kicking and have announced a stellar line-up of famous names including American indie-rock giants Wheatus of ‘Teenage Dirtbag’ fame, Babybird, Mark Morriss of the Bluetones and Nigel Clark lead singer of Dodgy.

The two-day event takes place on Sunday, June 3 and Monday, June 4.  Tickets for Live and Kicking are priced at £15.00 for adults, £5 for children, under 5s go free and family tickets (two adults and two children) are priced at £35.00. Tickets are available from the MEL Group Stadium, Sudbury Tourist Information Centre or online at www.liveandkicking@afcsudbury.com

Tickets for LeeStock are priced at £20.00 and more information can be found at www.leestock.org

Ingram Goes http://www.afcsudbury.com/2012/02/ingram-goes/ http://www.afcsudbury.com/2012/02/ingram-goes/#comments Sun, 19 Feb 2012 12:01:01 +0000 tony http://www.afcsudbury.com/?p=7043

Luke Ingram - Gone

AFC Sudbury manager Chris Tracey explained the omission from the first team squad at Chatham Town of midfielder Luke Ingram. The player was signed from Bury Town (not loaned) on a gentleman’s agreement between Richard Wilkins and Tracey himself, however the AFC manager felt he (Ingram) was not fit enough and as a result he has gone to back to Hadleigh United  where he was on loan from Bury, to get match fitness.

AFC will cancel his Ryman registration with themselves and presumably Bury Town will take him back under their wing.

While at AFC Ingram only played twice.

Ryman North Round-Up http://www.afcsudbury.com/2012/02/ryman-north-round-up-4/ http://www.afcsudbury.com/2012/02/ryman-north-round-up-4/#comments Sun, 19 Feb 2012 11:48:05 +0000 tony http://www.afcsudbury.com/?p=7042 It is turning into a two-horse race for the Ryman North title after Leiston’s 4-0 victory at Great Wakering  kept them two points ahead of Enfield Town, who are now nine points clear of third-placed Needham Market.

Rhys Henry (ex-AFC Sudbury) gave Leiston the lead after 17 minutes and the remaining goals followed in a six-minute burst either side of half-time. Michael Brothers (ex-AFC Sudbury) and Henry made it 3-0 at the interval and Daniel Ottley-Gooch struck soon after the restart. Wakering had Ashley Hawkins sent off and completed a bad day by finding that they had been dumped at the foot of the table.

Enfield looked set for a 1-0 home victory over Heybridge after Liam Hope converted a 19th-minute penalty. Then Luke Callander’s 82nd-minute equaliser produced a swift reaction: Michael Ewang restored Town’s lead a minute later and Hope made it 3-1.

Leiston and Enfield will doubtless be uncomfortably aware that the team which loses out in these straight fights for the title very rarely goes on to gain promotion via the play-offs.

Indeed, that was Needham’s fate last season after East Thurrock had outlasted them in the title race. The Marketmen crashed out of the play-offs at the semi-final stage.

They will be relieved to have gained a point from a 1-1 draw at Tilbury yesterday. Emiel Aiken put Dockers ahead with a 20-yard drive in the 13th minute and a red card for Duane Wright reduced the visitors to ten men before half-time.

But Bradley Barber levelled matters in the 61st minute, snapping up the rebound after a Sam Newson shot was parried.
Needham are now only one point ahead of Harlow, who have a game in hand. The Hawks came out on top in the day’s highest-scoring game, beating visitors Cheshunt 5-3.

It was 1-1 after only 11 minutes, with Josh Hutchinson replying to Mark Taylor’s opener for the hosts. Harlow then took command. Dave Cowley, returning to the club from Grays, restored their lead on 28 minutes, Danny Brown’s penalty made it 3-1 at the break and Jeff Hammond notched the fourth immediately after the restart.

Cheshunt netted the other three goals but, alas for them, one was an own goal by Dan Roles. Either side of it, Kevin Ashwood and Chris Sargent kept the Ambers’ distant hopes alive.

That was not the only five-goal haul among the play-off contenders. Grays remained fifth with a 5-1 win at Thamesmead and Brentwood moved up to sixth with a home victory over Waltham Forest by the same margin.

Grays took control with goals by Paul Olima in the 33rd minute and Nathan Gordon, a new arrival from Redbridge, three minutes later. An Ashley Probets penalty shortly after the interval gave Thamesmead hope but Joao Carlos restored the two-goal margin in the 55th minute. Olima headed his second and Anthony Ryan completed the nap hand.

It was the same scoring sequence at Brentwood. Ryan Doyle’s 27th-minute strike was the only goal of the first half and Ryan Edgar doubled the lead four minutes after the break. Jamie Moore replied midway through the half but Danny Dafter immediately headed home a corner to make it 3-1 and Forest’s hopes vanished when Antone Douglas was sent off after conceding a penalty in the 74th minute which Doyle converted. Robert Rees notched the late fifth.

AFC Sudbury trail Brentwood on goal difference – both clubs moved above Tilbury – after taking the points at Chatham with three unanswered goals. James Baker scored the first after 17 minutes, following up after his penalty was saved. Nathan Clarke headed another on 38 minutes and there was then a long wait for Dave Wareham’s goal in added time.

Potters Bar moved into the play-off race by romping to a 4-0 victory at Romford. After a goalless first half, Rob Magwood put the Scholars in front on 48 minutes and Paul Kavanagh’s own goal seven minutes later left Boro in trouble. It deepened after another seven minutes when James Gershfield scored from the spot and Gershfield also netted the fourth with ten minutes left.

Redbridge, though, lost vital ground when their half-time lead at Maldon turned into a 3-1 defeat. Ryan Wade’s 20th-minute strike gave the Motormen a promoising start but an own goal by Ryan Murray soon after the interval squared it and by the hour mark Ross Wall and Ollie Berquez had wrapped it up.

Great Wakering are on the bottom after victories for the two teams who have been disputing last place all season. Ilford edged ahead of Wakering on goal difference after coming from behind to beat visitors Waltham Abbey 3-2, only their third win of the campaign.

Adam Bolle netted a seventh-minute opener for the Abbotts but Rob Carter equalised ten minutes before the break, then put Ilford ahead in the 58th minute. Loui Hazlewood made it 3-1 nine minutes later and Ayrton Coley’s reply came with only a couple of minutes left.

Ware, the only team in the league without an away win, ended that record in style and moved three points clear of the bottom two as a hat-trick by Wingate loanee Lewis Jones powered them to a 4-1 victory at Soham.

Liam Foster’s eighth-minute goal for Ware brought an instant reply from Scott Carter but the rest of the game belonged to Jones. He was on target after 22, 58 and 88 minutes as Ware scored four times in a league game away from home for the first time in three years and a week.
