10.02.08 - Feering Falcons 0 v 3 AFC Sudbury Under 9s

A superb team effort ensured victory in AFC’s last match of this season.
Two brilliantly-struck goals from captain Kade Ivett saw AFC Sudbury ease out in front with Nathan McGraw adding the third to wrap up the victory.

AFC put together some great passing throughout the game with men of the match Ivett and Joshua Collins linking up well and Jamie Richford and Tom Davis up front coming close to adding to the tally.

James Cooper was once again solid at the back and added to a good all round performance which saw each player doing their bit for the win.

03.02.08 - AFC Sudbury Under 9s 0 v 5 Bures United

On a cold and windswept pitch, Bures took an early lead thanks to having the wind behind them, with two quick goals.

But AFC, facing the team who thrashed them 10-0 earlier in the season, battled on and defended superbly thanks to man of the match James Cooper who tackled and won the ball even when he seemed to be surrounded by most of the opposition.

Nathan McGraw and captain Kade Ivett enjoyed some good runs but it was Tom Davis who, after a quick run, nearly scored for AFC but was unlucky to hit the side netting.

Two more goals from Bures and an unfortunate own goal by AFC’s Joshua Collins, gave the visitors the victory.

09.12.07 - Halstead Town 2 v 1 AFC Sudbury Under 9s

AFC took the lead in this tight match, showing how much they had improved since the teams last met and Halstead had won 5-0.

Oliver Ellis scored the opener for the visitors who continued to attack the Halstead goal thanks to some terrific solo runs from Nathan McGraw who linked well with Joshua Collins and who both earned Man of the Match.

Halstead came back into the match to equalise and scored the winner soon afterwards  but it didn’t dampen the AFC spirits with manager, Dave Collins congratulating his team on one of their best performances this season.

02.12.07 - AFC Sudbury Under 9s 3 v 3 Marks Tey

AFC were stunned by an early goal from the visitors but quickly pulled themselves back into the match.

Goals from captain Kade Ivett, Nathan Mcgraw and Bradley Daultrey  saw the home side take a 3-1 lead in a very strong wind with hail stones thrown in.

After half time Marks Tey seemed to move up a gear and with the wind behind them soon drew level.

They searched for a winner but the AFC defence held firm and the honours were shared for the second time this season.

AFC manager Dave Collins named the whole team Men of the Match for their good all-round team performance.

25.11.07 - Hedingham Hawks 2 v 3 AFC Sudbury U9s

BOTH teams struggled on the heavy pitch but it was Nathan McGraw for  AFC who took the early advantage with a shot meant as a cross but which found its way into the Hedingham net.

Man of the match Joshua Collins added a second and delighted the travelling supporters with his knee-slide celebrations.

But the biggest cheer was reserved for Bradley Daultrey who scored his first ever goal for his team and was heartily congratulated by his team mates.

Hedingham pulled two back, forcing their way through the AFC defence which apart from the two breaches held up well throughout the match.

Despite a few good runs from the Hedingham forwards, AFC stayed strong and hung onto their well-deserved victory.

18.11.07 - Colchester and District Youth League Cup

AFC Sudbury Under 9s 0 Reed Hall Sentinels 4

Playing in tough, wintry conditions, the AFC team quickly went a goal down in the first few minutes, the visitors breaking quickly, as they did throughout much of the match.

The home side knew it wasn’t going to be their day when Oliver Ellis and Nathan McGraw both hit the post and both played extremely well, vying for man of the match, with Ellis just pipping his team mate to the honour.

Sub Tom Davis came on late in the match and battled hard to stop the Reed Hall charge and tried to get forward for AFC.

But Reed Hall dominated much of the match and played fast, flowing football and could have scored more if it had not been for some fine saves again from AFC keeper Charlie Everest.

U9’s NOVEMBER NEWS LETTER

First of all well done to all of the players for the effort they have put in for their last few games!

I have provisionally booked a place for our team at the West Ham mini soccer tournament next June (1st). I will need a £10 deposit from each player wishing to go by Sunday 18th Nov at the very latest as I must have the whole deposit paid by the 20th.

The balance is due by the end of Feb. Nicki will be collecting the money and once the deposit is paid Nicki will collect as you wish to pay, in other words you are free to pay in one go or by weekly/monthly instalments.

If any parents have any concerns/questions in reference to this trip please let me know. It should be a fantastic day for the boys/girls as they get to play on the pitch and see behind the scenes at West Ham.

Thanks to Mike for making us aware of this opportunity. Nicki now sits on the committee with me representing our team at the AFC academy meetings, as well as collecting money, running raffles and writing our match reports! Thanks Nicki! If anyone else would like to become more involved please see Nicki or I.

Nicki and I are hoping to get the parents/supporters together before Christmas for a couple of drinks and a chat as there are a number of points we would like to consult you all on before next season. Nicki At the present time we do not have games on Nov 18th or Dec 16th, however we may have a cup game on either date or a friendly, failing that I will organise training for both dates.

Over the next few weeks I am hoping to arrange some midweek training, this training will be based on skill and passing, the sessions will be optional and not attached to our player of the year points. However the more that attend the better, I will keep you informed.

After the 16th Dec we will break for Christmas. We will start training again on Jan 12th. Trophies! As stated we will have a player of the year and runner up. A player’s player and a most improved player.

However, I would like the parents and supporters to get together to sponsor and vote on a “Parents/Supporters player of the year”. So if anyone is interested in taking this on please let Nicki or I know.

Dec 1st, we have been offered one space for the AFC mascot on this day. The only fair way is to draw names out of the hat Nicki will be sorting this today. If you do not wish your child to be entered please inform Nicki. There will be other chances to do this later in the year. Hopefully we will see a few of you tonight!!

Thanks Dave

11.11.07 - Bergholt Heath 4 AFC Sudbury U9s 1

BATTLING a strong wind, AFC scored first with a goal from captain Kade Ivett which really lifted his side, having lost to Bergholt 6-0 in their last meeting.

AFC had spells in the first half when they should have score more, with both Ivett and Nathan McGraw both having chances.

Bergholt equalised and from then on they played some excellent passing football, particularly down the left side.

The home side would have scored more than their four goals if it hadn’t have been for some superb work in goal by AFC’s man of the match, Charlie Everest who saved a number of Bergholt shots.

AFC defended Bergholt corners well and they themselves almost scored from a corner but Ivett’s header unfortunately went wide late in the second half.

04.11.07 - Boxford Rovers U9s 2 AFC Sudbury U9s 4

SOME bright football from both sides matched the bright morning  and AFC went ahead thanks to a goal from captain Kade Ivett.

Two more from Man of the Match Nathan McGraw gave AFC the comfortable lead before a spirited Boxford side fought their way back with two goals.

The home team, roared on by their supporters,  must have thought they were in with a chance to at least equalise and took the initiative, attacking the Sudbury goal but without success and thanks to some good goal keeping from Charlie Everett.

James Cooper and Oliver Ellis once again worked well at the back for AFC and a stunning strike from almost the half way line from Ellis gave Sudbury the points.

AFC can be well pleased with their performance against a hard working Boxford side.

28.10.07 - AFC Sudbury u9s 6 Feering Falcons 0

On a cold, rainy morning AFC were quick off the mark, going a goal up within the first few minutes, the first of a hat trick from Joshua Collins.

Man of the match Oliver Ellis once again consistently worked hard to pass balls to Nathan McGraw and captain Kade Ivett who both scored, Ivett getting his second later in the second half.

Ellis also came close to scoring himself a couple of times in what was a good all round performance by the entire AFC team.

14.10.07 - AFC Sudbury U9s 2 Gt Bradfords 1

Faced with the team that beat them 10-0 at the start of the season, AFC were quick off the mark and took the lead through captain Kade Ivett, thanks to some hard work by midfielder Joshua Collins in midfield.

Man of the match James Cooper playing in defence for the first time tackled hard and won balls well, alongside Oliver Ellis who started most of the AFC attacks, giving balls for Nathan McGraw to work hard with.

An equaliser from the opposition spurred on AFC and Collins once again played a pivotal midfield role, setting up Ivett for his second goal and the match winner.

Charlie Everest made some fine, confident saves in the AFC goal and the whole team worked well and hard to get the result, a complete turnaround from the first time these sides met at the start of the season.

07.10.07 - AFC Sudbury U9’s 0-6 Bergholt Heath

AFC came up against the very strong Bergholt side. Although losing 6-0 all of the AFC players battled throughout the duration of the game.

James Cooper and Oliver Ellis worked tirelessly in midfield and spent most of the game defending. Charlie Everest had another excellent game in goal taking the AFC man of the match accolade. On the few attacks mounted by AFC they ran into a resolute Bergholt defence and although losing heavily AFC gave a much-improved performance to the previous week.

30.09.07 - AFC Sudbury U9’s 0 Halstead Town 5

AFC started brightly forcing two saves in quick succession from the Halstead Keeper, AFC then nearly took the lead with a goal bound effort being deflected wide by one of their own forwards.

Oliver Ellis made his debut for AFC and gave a good account of himself throughout the game and deservedly gained the AFC man of the match.

After a big improvement in the last two games AFC started to loose their way shortly before half time and Halstead took full advantage of this going 1-0 up before the interval.

Kade Ivett made some great saves for AFC, however even his heroic efforts could not prevent a further 4 goals form a Halstead side that were growing in confidence the longer the game went on.

23.09.07 - Marks Tey   0   AFC Sudbury 0

Both sides started brightly, with Marks Tey yet to concede a goal this season and AFC’s continued improvement a close game was on the cards.

AFC were resolute in defence marshalled by man of the match Kade Ivett and with some timely tackling from Bradley Daultrey and Drew Olley.

Charlie Everest started his second game in goal; Charlie made some excellent saves and gave Ivett a close run for the man of the match award.

For the second week running James Cooper and Joshua Collins were full of running in midfield with Collins making some great forward runs.

Nathan McGraw is really finding his feet in the forward position, McGraw regularly undone the Tey defence with his pace and was unlucky not to score on a number of occasions.

AFC are starting to gel as a team and Thomas Davis and Owen Mills both worked hard to put in improved performances. Angel Richardson come on in the second half to make her debut and again worked hard out of position on the left.

Late into the second half AFC were awarded a penalty after another great run by Collins was brought to an abrupt end.

With the penalty missed the game ended 0.0 with both sides happy with the result.

..end..

18th September 2007 - U9’s SEPTEMBER NEWS LETTER

First of all well done to all of the players for the effort they put in for their first game last Sunday!

Gt Bradfords have already had a season together and they also have some very good players. As you know this is the players first season and I know they will continue to improve. I would like to thank all the parents for attending and encouraging the team.

As I have mentioned all the players gave their all, however I would like to congratulate Bradley on his player of the match performance, well done! Also Kade on his second half performance in Goal, again well done!

It is also my first season and I will put my hand up to making a number of positional and tactical mistakes last week!

I will be consulting with Mark, and will be concentrating on defending over the next few weeks!!

Also for the time being we will be playing with one forward, this I am sure will be highly contentious with the players, as they all want to be a striker!!

As I have mentioned before, I want the emphasis to be on learning and having fun (I am sure the results will follow) so please support and encourage the players whatever position they are in.

We are still looking for a permanent Keeper, so if any of you know of a budding David James please encourage them to come along. Unfortunately until then I will have to encourage the boys to share that position.

We now have enough out field players, however we could accommodate one more, so again if you know of anyone suitable please bring them along.

There may be one or two younger players joining us for training at different times, these players are too young to play matches however we are encouraging to train in readiness for next season. Next season we hope to have a new U9 and U8 side, so again please spread the word.

This Sunday we are at home 12.30 KO, please be there for 11.45 the latest as we hope to take a team and individual photos. The will be a small cost for these photos should you want any. The charge will be solely to cover costs. If there is any money left over it will go towards the running of the club.

At the end of the season there will be various awards, Player of the year, Players player of the year and most improved player. There may be a couple more; however there will not be an award for the most goals scored.

The player of the season will be awarded on a point’s basis; the player with the most points will be Player of the year!! Points will be awarded for attitude and effort at training and match’s. Player of the Match will attract extra points. Now here’s the bad news, bad attitude and lack of effort will result in “point fines”!!

Players missing games/training will simply not be able to score points when they are absent. However it is important to note players with genuine reasons for absence (ill, on holiday, staying with their other parent etc) will be awarded their “average” points for their absence. In other words if the player is absent through no fault of their own they will not be penalised. Hopefully this system will be fair, please forward me your comments.

16th September 2007 - AFC Sudbury U9’s 4 Hedingham Hawks U9’s 2

Following a very heavy defeat in their first game AFC made a few positional changes and worked hard on defending in training.

Hawks started the game quickly launching attack after attack, a combination of good defending; some great saves from Charlie Everest and a little luck kept the score at 0.0.

Eventually, and deservedly Hawks took the lead through Joshua Dean with a well taken finish.

Some great tackling and chasing back by Joshua Collins and James Cooper kept the score at 0.0 until well into the second half.

Half way through the second half AFC started to attack with more confidence, Nathan McGraw started to use his pace up front, Captain Kade Ivett started to break from defence linking up well with Collins and Cooper.

Ivett scored three superbly well taken goals in just over 5 minutes putting AFC in a commanding position, shortly after McGraw added a fourth with a looping shot.

A few minutes before the final whistle Hawks pulled one back with the goal of the game, a powerful shot from Cameron Etheron.
