AFC Sudbury Under 10's - Match Report
16/09/2007 – Stanway Rovers v AFC Sudbury Blues. ( 5-0 ) Sudbury knew that Stanway Rovers was to be one of their hardest game, and it showed from the start. Consistent pressure from the home team lead to a number of chances but good defending from parents nominated man of the match and team captain, Chris Lewis kept the home team from scoring. Despite a number of good driving runs from and good interplay between the midfield of Liam O,Mara, Seb Lingard and Chris Lewis, an unfortunate free kick to Stanway Rovers lead to the first goal, scored directly from the free kick.
Then followed a consistent spell of pressure from AFC with good passing and movement from the midfield and forwards, but we were unable to convert the good possession in to goals. Chris Lewis was again unlucky not to score from a free kick just before half time. The start of the second half saw Stanway with their control of the ball, and despite a number of fine defensive saves from goal keeper Max Horkan and defensive clearing headers from Seb and Chris, a fine break away movement from the home team lead to the third, with the 4th following shortly afterwards. AFC did not let their heads drop and continued to try for the consolation, with a good driving run from Chris Lewis leading to a corner for AFC and they were unlucky not to score from the kick. Another spell of good passing and movement finally saw AFC play as a team, but another breakaway, with little defence saw Stanway score the fifth. Despite the result AFC showed spells of good attacking play, and in some ways the score flattered the home side.
