AFC Sudbury Under 10's - Match Report

10.02.08 - AFC Sudbury Blues U10s 3 vs 2 Halstead Town FC

AFC Sudbury improve on their previous meeting with Halstead but still a very close game!

AFC Sudbury continued their run at a top 3 placing with 5 games left in the league and needed to gain valuable points to achieve it.

Despite key squad members absent, team re-shuffled and re-focused for end result. Christopher Lewis (Capt.) had an outstanding game providing strong tackles and good attacking runs at goal, having to contend with one of Halstead best players throughout the 40 mins. and was perhaps, the key factor that allowed Sudbury to retain their victory.

Halstead were well formed and showed good display of passing and teamwork forcing an error early on for them to take the lead (0-1) but credit to Sudbury who then raised their game for strikers, Patrick Cooper & Kierran Marshall (Man of the Match) to combine well, Patrick lobbing the keeper off his line to score the equalizer (1-1), Chris Lewis providing the thru` pass from a Seb Lingard clearance.

The next Sudbury goal came from an attacking corner, which bounced around the keeper box before Patrick Cooper once again forced the ball over the line with a tremendous shot (2-1).

A few minutes later from another attacking corner, ball drifted over top for Kierran Marshall to get his foot onto ball with half volley into net, Sudbury increasing their lead (3-1).

In the second half, Halstead came back putting Sudbury’s midfield and defence under increased pressure, Seb Lingard in particular, putting in great effort to stop the visitors. Keeper, Max Horkan also made a number of tremendous saves, even though Halstead hit the bar twice!

AFCS eventually conceded a further goal Halstead drawing closer (3-2). Sudbury had occasional quick counter attacks on the left through Kierran but could not increase their lead.

AFC Sudbury held out to take victory plus points putting them in a strong position to chase league leaders.
