AFC SUDBURY 2   IPSWICH TOWN 1

AFC began their season with a first ever victory over Ipswich.

In ideal conditions it was AFC who settled quicker and forced Ipswich onto the back foot.  SAM THOMSON and the fit again CHARLOTTE WARREN were dominating the midfield, and with ADELE MARTIN and STACEY TEAGER looking sharp up front, AFC were right on top, but, as so often, against the run of play a long ball over AFC's defence, found MADDY PITMAN unmarked and she raced through to fire home and give Ipswich the lead.

AFC continued to dominate but just couldn't find the all illusive final pass, and went in trailing at half time.

The second half saw a more even contest as both sides continued to play some good football.  Half way through the second half Ipswich were reduced to ten players when a punch was thrown leaving the referee with no option but to send the offender off.

AFC now sensed their chance and upped the tempo, and were finally rewarded for their hard work when NATALIE GOLDING burst into the box and fired home into the roof of the net.

Even with ten players Ipswich still posed a threat, but AFC's defensive pairing of CHLOE GRIMSHAW and KATIE BURROWS held firm.

Half chances came and went for both sides, but there was drama in the final minute when ADELE MARTIN broke clean through, only to see her shot saved by the keepers legs, but STACEY TEAGER was on hand to fire home the rebound and secure a memorable win.
