February 3, 2012 Marketmen Back On Track

Needham Market Director of Football Andy Gould believes the Marketmen have put themselves back in a prime position to launch an attack on promotion from Ryman League Division One North.

Saturday’s emphatic 7-0 win over Cheshunt at Bloomfields continued the club’s revival in the league after enduring a run of four straight defeats and stretched their newly formed unbeaten run to three matches.

The sequence has left Needham third in the league and although they sit nine points off table-toppers Leiston, Gould, although conceding the margin of the points gap is larger than he would like, is confident his side can overhaul the deficit and challenge for a place in the Ryman Premier.

“As important as the performance was against Cheshunt the fact we kept that unbeaten revival going after an obvious tough period was fantastic and hopefully we can keep that going,” he said.

“The last three results have given us a platform to build on once again and we are in a position to continue our assault on promotion and the teams above us.

“We would like the points gap to the top of the league to be closer but we are still confident of achieving our aims of promotion, all we can do is concentrate on ourselves.

“We believe we are over a slump in form so now hopefully we can focus on maintaining that unbeaten run.

“There are quite a few games still left to play with a lot of points still on offer so you never know, we aren’t ruling it out.”
