February 11, 2012 Enfield Boss On New Signing
Manager Steve Newing is optimistic that new signing Tyler Campbell can play a significant role in helping Enfield Town to sustain their challenge for the Ryman League Division One North title this season.
The 20-year-old winger joined the club from fellow promotion hopefuls Brentwood Town last Thursday and would have been involved in the squad for Saturday’s clash at home to Chatham Town had that not suffered the same fate as every other match in the division and been called off because of a frozen pitch.
Campbell, who impressed while playing against Town for Brentwood last month, came close to getting a professional contract with Swindon Town and has Blue Square Bet Premier experience with Histon.
And Newing, who has been named the Division One North manager of the month after Town collected 13 points out of a possible 15 from their five league matches during January, is delighted with the new arrival.
“He’s a good player and he’s excited to be joining us,” the manager said. “He’s a local lad and he’s said he always wanted to play for the club.
“He’s had quite a few clubs for someone who is still only 20, but he really wants to settle down now and stay here for a long time
“He’s a bit different to what we’ve got in our squad because he’s more of an old-fashioned wide man, and his versatility is a nice bonus.
“I think that having Tyler here means that we’ve now got the ability to use a 4-4-2 system if we need to, and having that bit more flexibility gives us an added dimension.”
