February 18, 2012 Chats Optimistic

Chatham Town are optimistic they will be back in action this weekend, after three weeks without a game.

The Chats are due to host AFC Sudbury in Ryman Division 1 North and one unexpected bonus from the enforced lay-off is that they have a full squad to choose from.

“We’ve been pretty lucky with injuries this year,” assistant manager Keith Levett said. “Something might come out of training in the week, but we should have everyone available. There was a blanket of snow on the pitch, but it should clear and provided we don’t get a frost we should be ok.”

Chatham, 14th, were supposed to be hosting Great Wakering last Saturday, but that fixture went the way of every other game in Kent and the team go into the Sudbury game without having kicked a ball in anger since they blew a 2-0 lead in the last five minutes to draw with Potters Bar on January 28.

AFC Sudbury, eighth in the table, beat Chatham 1-0 when the two sides met in Suffolk in October, going down to an early goal from Richard Howell.

“They were on top for the first 20 minutes but we grew into it and were a bit unlucky not to get a point,“ Levett said. “Some of our football was very good but they are a good team and we‘ll have to put in a very good performance on Saturday.”
