February 9, 2012 Brentwood Hope To Sign To Forwards
Brentwood Town should have two new strikers in their side when they host local rivals Romford in the Ryman League Division One North this Saturday.
Manager Steve Witherspoon hopes to have the two players signed up before training onThursday so both can go straight into the side.
One player has had experienced of playing at Blue Square Bet Premier level last season and the other striker has moved down from the north of England where he has played at a similar level.
“Everyone knows we’ve a problem with scoring goals despite creating a host of chances in every game,” said Witherspoon. “Hopefully these two irons in the fire will come out and be signed in time for the Romford game.”
While Town have the meanest defence in the league – they’ve only conceded 24 goals in 28 games – they’ve a poor goal scoring record having netted only 39 goals.
“Both these strikers should help solve our problem as we need to score more goals than we have been doing if we’re to continue our push for the play-offs,” he added.
Leaving the Arena are 20-year-old Tyler Campbell, who has joined league rivals Enfield Town, striker Emmanuel Osei is on his way to Harlow Town and Ryan O’Rawe has joined Essex neighbours Maldon & Tiptree.
“I’m disappointed to lose a promising youngster like Tyler but he lives that way and wanted to move to a club with a new ground and be with some of his mates,” said Witherspoon. “Ryan has gone because he felt he wasn’t getting regular first team football which was what he wants and I can understand.”
Town, like all Ryman League clubs lost their scheduled game at Great Wakering Rovers on Saturday because of the wintry weather, but were able to train indoors at the Brentwood Centre on Tuesday.
“Like everyone else we hope the weather improves so that we can get back playing again and the Romford game will be a hard one,” he said. “We need to keep our momentum going so we can maintain our push for the play-offs.
“There’s still a long way to go and plenty of matches to play and we’ll continue to give it a go but playing the way we’ve been doing.
“Hopefully we’ll be able to find the net with a bit more consistency.”
