February 17, 2012 Another Birthday Boy
On this day in 1980 ex-AFC Sudbury midfielder Gareth Simpson was born, so a happy thirty-second birthday to him.
On 4th January 2008, this midfield player was signed for AFC from Mildenhall Town, where he was the club captain. Unsurprisingly had the nickname of ‘Simmo’, (b 17/02/80). He spent time with Norwich City and Gillingham and previously played for, Cambridge City and Diss Town before joining Mildenhall in July 2004 for a second spell with them. He left at the end of the 2007/08 season and on 2nd August 2008 had signed for Wivenhoe Town. On 18th November 2008 after a change of manager he re-joined Mildenhall Town. On 22nd March 2009 he had been appointed temporary joint manager of the club following the manager’s resignation. On 2nd June 2009 he was reported to have agreed to join Wroxham for the 2009/10 season which he did and went to the FA Vase Final with the club. At the start of the 2010/11 season he was reported to have joined Norwich United and was there in November 2010.
