January 20, 2012 Enfield Keep Loanee Longer

Enfield Town were handed a boost this week when it was confirmed that midfielder Neil Johnston’s loan spell from Barnet is being extended until at least the beginning of March.

The youngster arrived at Town in early November and initially struggled to force his way into the side.

But he has been a permanent fixture in the team since making his league debut on December 17, becoming an increasingly influential figure – and scored twice in successive matches earlier this month.

The new agreement runs until March and means that Johnston, whose deal was due to run out this month, will be available for Town’s next six Ryman League Division One North matches.

Town are hopeful that the deal may still be extended further, with Barnet set to decide at the end of February whether he can stay at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium until the end of the season.

“It’s good news that we get Neil for a further six weeks,” manager Steve Newing said. “He’s really started to find his feet at this level and has put in consistent performances since he broke into the side.”
