January 20, 2012 Chats Manager Backs Striker

Kevin Watson, manager of Ryman League Division One North side Chatham Town, is backing striker Lloyd Blackman to end his scoring drought but says his role in the side is more than just about goals.

The former Brentford marksman, who moved to Maidstone Road after spells with Hythe and Whitstable, hit the target several times early on, but has had a lean spell recently.

Player-boss Watson said: “He brings a lot to the side. He has been a good signing and is an asset to the team. He scored a few goals when he first arrived, but has taken on a different role. He plays for the team, which he does really well, and managing him right.”

Chats make the Ryman League Division One North trip to Romford on Saturday looking to improve on a poor away record, since winning 1-0 at Needham Market last month.

They have lost on their last three trips, conceding eight and scoring none, a stark contrast to their home form – which has seen them hit 12 goals in their last three outings.

Watson said: “We have yo-yoed a bit too much for our own good. It is frustrating, but I don’t think there’s a real reason, because it’s the same 11 players.”
